Giuseppe Maria Granniello

Giuseppe Maria Granniello, CRSP (born February 8, 1834 in Naples , † January 8, 1896 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Giuseppe Granniello joined the Congregation of Regular Clerics of St. Paul, the so-called Barnabites . He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1857 . He then worked for around 20 years as a professor of theology at the seminary of his order in Rome. In 1877 he was appointed General Procurator , a position he held for another 14 years until 1891.

On January 8, 1892, Granniello became secretary in the Congregation for Bishops in the Vatican . Shortly afterwards, on March 29, 1892, he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. Appointed Titular Archbishop of Caesarea Ponti . The episcopal ordination donated him on April 3, 1892 Cardinal Raffaele Monaco La Valletta , Cardinal Bishop of Ostia e Velletri and Dean of the College of Cardinals ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Vincenzo Leone Sallua and Archbishop Francesco di Paola Cassetta , papal almsman .

Just a year later, Pope Leo XIII took. Granniello in the consistory of June 12, 1893 as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Quirico e Giulitta in the college of cardinals. Three days later, on June 15, 1893, Granniello was awarded the biret and the cardinal's ring.

Cardinal Granniello died at the age of 61. His grave is in the Campo Verano cemetery in Rome.
