Giuseppe Maria Mazzetti

Giuseppe Maria Mazzetti OCarm (originally Giacomo Silvestro Gaetano ; born December 2, 1778 in Chieti , Abruzzo , † July 14, 1850 in Naples ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Aquino, Sora and Pontecorvo .

Life

He attended the college in Chieti and then studied medicine at the University of Naples before he was accepted into the Carmelite order with the religious name Giuseppe Maria . On April 21, 1807, he received the degree of master's degree in theology. He was Provincial and later Deputy Superior General of his order. On December 1, 1817, he entered the service of the Curia as consultor to the Congregation for Indulgences and Holy Relics . Until 1836 he was consultor of various congregations of the Roman Curia .

King Ferdinand II of Naples proposed him on April 27, 1836 as Bishop of Aquino, Sora and Pontecorvo, his preconization took place on July 11 of the same year. He was ordained bishop on July 16, 1836, by the Cardinal Bishop of Sabina , Carlo Odescalchi ; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Soglia Ceroni , Latin Patriarch of Constantinople , and the Vice-Dean of the Diocese of Rome , Archbishop Antonio Luigi Piatti . On September 13, 1837, Giuseppe Maria Mazzetti became rector of the Royal University of Naples. After he had been appointed President of Public Education and Council of State, he renounced the diocese of Aquino, Sora and Pontecorvo on February 5, 1838 and was made titular Archbishop of Seleucia in Isauria on February 15 of the same year . In 1848 he was president of the junta of the Biblioteca Borbonica .
