action

Munich professor Friedrich Sibelius is retiring . His wife Anna, who is shortly before her 60th birthday and wants to stage Shakespeare's Midsummer Night 's Dream over the next few weeks , has taken precautions: Friedrich has appointments for the first time, be it supervising the grandchildren Linchen and Niki or the first driving lessons. Anna, who knows how reluctant Friedrich will be against completing the driving school, paid it in advance. In fact, Friedrich, who would not even voluntarily board a plane, wants to cancel the driving lessons, but he changes his mind in the face of the attractive driving instructor Eva Trostberg.

Besides his driving lessons, Friedrich has a lot to do. He is used as an actor in a documentary film. He also finds out that his adult son Thomas has had a girlfriend for almost two years and that they are both parents of a young daughter - Friedrich's granddaughter. Anna only found out about it when she was celebrating her 60th birthday, on which, to Friedrich's chagrin, she was also given a salsa course for two. Inevitably, Friedrich lets himself be persuaded to dance and cuts a fine figure. He is also making such great progress in terms of driving lessons that it can be checked before the specified number of driving hours is reached. Because he wants to continue to be with Eva, he drives the test like a beginner and fails. Shortly thereafter, another driver took the right of way for an hour. There is a collision in which Friedrich is injured. He is taken to the hospital and his injured leg treated. Eva appears and greets Friedrich with a kiss when asked. Anna sees it and is outraged. She forbids Friedrich to take more driving lessons.

Friedrich is released from the hospital. Because his leg has yet to heal, he cannot go on a skiing holiday with the family. He uses the family-free time for a rendezvous with Eva. He takes them out to a fine restaurant. In the end, both end up in his apartment together. Eva lies seductively on the bed and Friedrich begins to undress her. He kisses her hand - which turns out to be Anna's hand. He wakes up next to Anna in the holiday room and realizes that he didn't stay back in Munich alone and that his affair with Eva was just a dream, albeit a beautiful one. Linchen and Niki run into the bedroom to wake up their grandparents.
