The church is located on Selliner Kirchstrasse on the western edge of the village and is surrounded by dense trees. The forest area of the Granitz joins behind the church .

History and equipment

At first, the Sellin parish was a subsidiary of Lancken-Granitz . The Sellin evangelical church members therefore had to go to church services in the neighboring village 5 km away. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, Sellin gained increasing importance as a seaside resort. The increasing number of guests meant that for the Sellin and their guests on simple benches under beeches, forest services were initially carried out.

The increasing importance of Sellin, but also the plans of the Catholic Church to build the Maria-Meeresstern-Church in Sellin , led to the decision to build the church. The building plot was made available by the Princess von Putbus in 1908. Donations were raised for the construction of the church. The largest single donation comes from a widow Bachmann , who made 14,000 marks available. The foundation stone was laid on August 20, 1912. On July 8, 1913, the inauguration of the church was celebrated.

On July 20, 1915, the inauguration of Barnim Grüneberg's organ (Opus 672) took place. After the church fire in 1960, an optical and aural redesign was carried out by W. Sauer Orgelbau Frankfurt (Oder) . Since then the instrument has eight stops on two manuals and a pedal . The actions are pneumatic. The disposition is as follows:

I main work C–

For armament purposes, two bells had to be delivered during the First World War . In 1926 two new bells were purchased, but they were delivered again during World War II . Only a small bronze bell remained in the church.

On April 1, 1950 Sellin was raised to its own parish and thus dissolved by Lancken-Granitz. The Baaber community became a daughter community of Seelins. In the post-war period, the Seeliner community was involved in caring for the needy population. With prayer services for German prisoners of war in the Soviet Union in 1952 and criticism by the church of the actions of expropriation by Aktion Rose , the community also positioned itself politically against the GDR state organs. There were long-lasting tensions between the church community and government agencies.

On April 24, 1960, a fire broke out after a confirmation service . The roof of the church and the bells were destroyed and the interior of the church was devastated. The state put the cause of the fire back to a damaged chimney . In later publications the parish emphasized the outbreak just after the confirmation service and explained the opposite state pressure for the youth consecration and thus speculatively suggested another cause of the fire.

In the period that followed, the parish quickly rebuilt the church. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on September 24, 1962, followed by the consecration of three new bells on November 3, 1963. In 1965 the only slightly damaged organ was repaired. Even during the fall of the Wall , the parish was politically active again. A lecture on glasnost and perestroika was given in the church as early as 1987 . The church was the space for the public assemblies of residents from 1989 to 1991. A local citizens' initiative founded for the political turnaround met in the rectory.

In May and July 1990, the GDR youth television network ELF99 researched the Rose Action in the 1950s in the rectory. The church building was also present in the national media through the transmission of the Christmas Eve service and round table discussions on December 25, 1991 on the television station n-tv . In the post-reunification period, minor renovations were made to the church. In June 1990 the bell system was rebuilt and rebuilt in 1995. In 1994 the organ was repaired. With the support of the municipality, the entrance to the church was re-paved in 1995.

The parishes of Sellin, Baabe and Lancken-Granitz formed a parish union on January 1, 2003. In the meantime the parish of Sellin has merged with the parishes of Baabe, Göhren, Groß Zicker, Middelhagen and Thiessow and forms the parish of Mönchgut-Sellin.

architecture

The church building was built in the neo- baroque style . The octagonal structure is unusual for the area. The plastered building has a mansard roof and is crowned by an open lantern . The apse opposite the entrance hall has a rectangular floor plan.

The three bells cast by the Schilling company from Apolda in 1963 bear the inscriptions: Dona nobis pachem (Lord, give us peace), The Lord's word remains in eternity and war and for we lifted 63 sin we wedder came and hang here, Lord GOD to refresh.
