Gnojno is a village in the Powiat Buski of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with about 4500 inhabitants and is located about 35 km southeast of Kielce and 18 km northeast of the district town of Busko-Zdrój .

history

The history of the settlement goes back to Roman times. Gnojno was on Amber Road . In historical times Gnojno is mentioned for the first time in connection with the Tatar invasion in 1341, when the local church was burned. The country was then under the rule of the Gnoiński family. Krzystof Gnoiński had a manor house built in 1540, which now houses the Social Welfare Center.

In 1795 Gnojno fell to Austria with the Third Partition of Poland . In 1809 it came to the Grand Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 to the Kingdom of Poland . After the end of the First World War , the place came back to the newly formed Poland.

The rural community (gmina wiejska) Gnojno consists of 26 villages with school boards. The population of the municipality was 4735 in 2007 and 4466 in 2016. The municipality is characterized by agriculture; Potato cultivation is predominant.

Attractions

  • The single-nave church of John the Baptist (Jana Chrzciciela) and St. Thekla from around 1470, expanded between 1596 and 1598 and converted to Baroque style from 1677, with a front tower and transept.
  • The renaissance mansion from around 1540.
