The prepared foundation walls of a building from the La Tène period

The Goarmbichl (also: Goarmbichel ) near Vill near Innsbruck is a prehistoric site.

location

The Goarmbichl (obd. Bichel / Bühel ' hill ') is a small knoll on the foot plateau of the Patscherkofel , east of the village of Vill and north of the Ramsbach ( Viller Bach ). The basin is a post-glacial dead ice trough, which shows several dead ponds from Viller Moor (a former lake) east to Lanser See and Mühlsee .

Finds and classification

The Goarmbichl site is one of the most important pre-Roman evidence in the Innsbruck basin . It is a domed settlement from the La Tène period , which dates from around 400 to 150 BC. Can be dated, and represents a branch of the Alpine Celts (unspecific ancient name: Illyrer ). As a peripheral location, it is one of the most important settlements on Goldbichl .

The foundation walls of two residential buildings of a large farmhouse have been preserved. At the time, the settlement was probably only a few meters above the level of the Viller See. The buildings have a characteristic floor plan, with an angled, narrow, elongated hallway and a comparatively spacious main or living room.

The property can safely into the fritzens-sanzeno culture will be provided, whose Leitfund at Fritz is close Wattens, and Rhaetians is assigned. A Fritzen bowl with a fir pattern was found here. It should be Breonen . The settlement was probably abandoned between 100 and 15 BC. When the Romans conquered the Alpine region.

The Viller bronze wheel was also found here , a fine artifact that also adorns Vill's coat of arms.

Excavation history and conservation

The first excavations were carried out by H. Miltner in 1939/42, but the site was then left to its own devices. One of the buildings is on the town, the other on private property. At the instigation of the Federal Monuments Office and the Innsbruck City Archives under the direction of Franz-Heinz Hye , and with the support of the ZONTA Club, the facility was partially renovated in the 1970s. In 2006, the Innsbruck Beautification Association carried out a new repair, and part of the complex was designed as a small open-air museum .
