Godo Lieberg

Godo Lieberg (born December 30, 1929 in Kaarma (Karmel), Estonia ; † July 31, 2016 ) was a Baltic German classical philologist .

After the Second World War, Godo Lieberg studied Classical Philology at the Universities of Göttingen and Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in 1954 under Wolfgang Schadewaldt . In 1960 he went to Rome for two years and then completed his habilitation in Tübingen in 1962. In 1965 he followed a call from the newly founded Ruhr University Bochum to the chair of Latin studies . In 1981 he moved to the University of Siena . After his retirement , he worked as a lecturer at the Department of Classical Philology at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

Lieberg's research focused on Latin poetry ( Catullus , Tibullus ) and prose ( Caesar ). In his dissertation he had dealt with the Aristotelian doctrine of pleasure. He also advocated the active use of the Latin language.

From December 1956 Godo Lieberg was with Marisa Lieberg, b. de Dal Lago (1930–2013), married.
