Bernd Effe

Bernd Effe (born August 11, 1942 in Braunschweig ) is a German classical philologist .

After graduating from high school in 1962, Effe studied Classical Philology and Slavic Studies at the Universities of Kiel and Tübingen . He received his doctorate in 1968 in Kiel and then worked as a research assistant in Saarbrücken , Berlin and Konstanz , where he completed his habilitation in 1975. From 1977 to 1984 he was a professor and lecturer in Konstanz, and since then he has taught and researched in Bochum. He turned down calls to the Universities of Bamberg (1978) and Konstanz (1992). He has been retired since 2007. Manuel Baumbach has been his successor since 2009 .

In addition to Greek philosophy (especially Plato's and Aristotle 's theory of the state), Effe deals with the early epic , the drama of the 5th century BC. BC, with Hellenistic poetry, with the ancient novel , teaching poetry, reception history and many other fields. His work Poetry and Teaching, Investigations into the Typology of the Ancient Teaching Poem (Munich 1977) is today the starting point for any study of the genre of the teaching poem.
