Here the motto of life was implemented by Goethe, who said of himself:

"This desire to point the pyramid of my existence, the basis of which has been given up and founded by me, as high as possible in the air, outweighs everything else."

The memorial plaque on the Goethestein bears the inscription:

The Goethestein seen from Frauenstein

“When Goethe was in Wiesbaden for the second time in 1815 for a cure, he and friends also went on a trip to the“ Spitzen Stein ”and the“ Nürnberger Hof ”on July 6th. It was a stay that satisfied the esthete and scientist in him. The poet praised the beautiful view, and the geologist examined with interest the quartzite of the mountain for traces of copper and iron . Hardly less, however, should have turned his attention to the lovely Philippine Lade (1797–1879), whose artistic talent he valued. "

The Goethestein can now be reached via several hiking trails, including the Rheinsteig , from Frauenstein and Wiesbaden. From the terrace you have a view of Haus Himmelreich in Dotzheim , Grorother Hof and Grorother Mühle and the valley of the Lindenbach .
