action

Beth Easton was thirteen years old in 1980 and lives in Los Angeles . Her mother drives to a small town in northwestern Canada and takes Beth with her. There Beth meets Jody Salerno, who feels more comfortable in nature than among people. Salerno is looking for a cave where Molly Morgan should have hidden a pot of gold.

Easton and Salerno become friends. Together they go in search of the treasure. On the way, Salerno confides to her friend that Jody's mother's boyfriend often drinks too much alcohol and becomes violent in this state .

The girls find the cave and are endangered by flooding. Easton, trapped under boulders, threatens to drown, her friend calls for help in good time.

Salerno's mother is beaten up by her boyfriend. The man kidnaps Jody, who he demands that she show him where the treasure is hiding. Beth leads the police into the cave. The kidnapper is knocked unconscious by an elderly woman armed with a piece of wood; then the woman disappears without a trace. Jody and Beth suspect it must be Molly Morgan. The kidnapper is arrested.

A little later, a lawyer hands Easton and Salerno gold pieces that come from an anonymous sponsor.
