The Golden Highway is a main road in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales . It connects the New England Highway southeast of Singleton with the Mitchell Highway and the Newell Highway in Dubbo .

course

Approx. 11 km southeast of Singleton, the Golden Highway branches off to the west from the New England Highway (N15). It bypasses Singleton in the south and runs at Mount Thorley about 2 km together with the Putty Road (S69). It follows the Hunter River upstream along the northern boundary of Wollemi National Park to the northwest. At Sandy Hollow , the Bylong Valley Way branches off to the west and 50 km further on reaches the Merriwa road , where it turns west and crosses the Merriwa River .

The Golden Highway then crosses the Krui River and Munmurra River and follows the Talbragar River downstream to Dunedoo . The last 10 km up to then it runs together with the Castlereagh Highway (S86). The Golden Highway follows the Talbragar River downstream to Dubbo, where it meets and ends with the Newell Highway (N39) and the Mitchell Highway (R32).

meaning

The Golden Highway provides the direct link between the Hunter Valley and the port city of Newcastle in the east and central New South Wales. Unlike the crossings of the Great Dividing Range further south , such as the Great Western Highway and the Bells Line of Road , the Golden Highway has a relatively low gradient and does not reach any great heights. Therefore, it is easy to drive on with caravan teams and mobile homes.
