The Goliath Rapid was a three-wheeled load cart with an open driver's seat and two wheels at the front and one wheel at the rear. It was produced in 1925 or early 1926 by the Bremer Kühlerfabrik Borgward & Co. GmbH in Sebaldsbrück , a settlement in the Hemelingen suburb of Bremen . He was a construction fundamentally different than the older and continued to produce parallel flash carts . Borgwards Kühlerfabrik later traded under the name Goliath -Werke Borgward & Co. GmbH .

Goliath Rapid

The Goliath Rapid has a trapezoidal ladder frame , the short side of the trapezoid is at the back. The rigid front axle under the loading area is leaf-sprung , the steering is operated via a vertical steering wheel on the bulkhead. A windshield was offered as an accessory. The 198 cm³ single-cylinder two-stroke engine with 4 HP (3 kW), air-cooled with a fan , was manufactured by the ILO engine factories. It is installed upright behind the loading area and drives the rear wheel via a gearbox and a shaft. The axle of the rear wheel is screwed to the slotted ends of the frame side members so that the rear wheel can simply be pulled out to the rear after loosening the nuts. The rear brake and a dog clutch are located between the gearbox and the drive shaft so that the angular gearbox and the drive shaft do not have to be dismantled when removing the wheel. For this was Carl Borgward a patent. The patent was filed on August 8, 1928 and the patent published on April 28, 1930. The vehicle had an electric starter. Optionally, electric lamps including brake lights were offered for RM 170, an electric horn for RM 30 .

Initially, the vehicle could be loaded with 250 kg. In 1928 a new version came with a permissible payload of 300 kg and a 5.5 HP engine (4 kW) with a displacement of 250 cm³.

Improvements in 1931 allowed up to 500 kg of cargo. The version as a flatbed truck was available for 1100 RM and the one with a closed transport box for 1200 RM. The vehicle was available with an odometer and a passenger seat for an additional charge.

In the meantime, the 500 kg freight version with the designation Goliath Standard had gone into production and had a 350 cm³ single-cylinder two-stroke gasoline engine with 7.5 hp (5.5 kW), also manufactured by ILO, which took the load cart up to 40 km / h fast. The standard was available with different superstructures: a short (900 × 1600 mm) or long (900 × 2000 mm) platform, a closed box (900 × 1600 × 750 mm) with doors or a hood that could be folded to the side. The flatbed truck was available for 1295 Reichsmarks and the closed transport box or the hood over the flatbed for 1440 Reichsmarks.

In 1931 a 750 kg version with a two-cylinder engine and 9 HP (6.6 kW) from 400 cm³ was introduced and prices rose to 1,600 and 1,750 Reichsmarks.

The following model, the Goliath F 200 / F 400 with a closed cabin, went into production in mid-1933 .
