Gottfried Thomasius (theologian)

Gottfried Thomasius (born June 26, 1802 in Egenhausen , Middle Franconia , † January 24, 1875 in Erlangen ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Gottfried Thomasius was a great-great-grandson of Christian Thomasius . He attended high school in Ansbach and studied theology and philosophy in Erlangen, Halle and Berlin from 1821 to 1825 . In 1822 he became a member of the Onoldia Corps . In 1829 he became pastor in Nuremberg , later at the same time a religion teacher at the local grammar school, and in 1842 a full professor of dogmatics and university preacher in Erlangen. He was one of the most influential representatives of Lutheran awakening theology and, alongside Johann von Hofmann, was the most respected head of the Erlangen school . He died on January 24, 1875 at the age of 72 in Erlangen.

In 1830 in Ansbach he married Caroline Sophie Christiane Julie Marie Lehmus, daughter of the dean and pastor at the St. Johannis Church in Ansbach Theodor Lehmus and Henriette Mohl. The marriage has two children: Henriette and Adelheid Thomasius. The latter marries August von Bechmann , who was a university professor in Munich.
