Gottlieb Haberlandt

Gottlieb Johann Friedrich Haberlandt (born November 28, 1854 in Hungarian Altenburg, today Mosonmagyaróvár ; † January 30, 1945 in Berlin ) was an Austrian botanist . He founded the physiological plant anatomy and was a co-discoverer of plant hormones.

Live and act

Haberlandt was one of six children of the agricultural scientist Friedrich Haberlandt (1826–1878). His brother Michael Haberlandt (1860–1940) was an ethnologist.

Haberlandt studied at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1876. He then worked for Simon Schwendener at the University of Tübingen . In 1881 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . From 1888 he was professor of botany at the Graz University of Technology and from 1910 at the University of Berlin . In 1899 he was accepted as a corresponding member and in 1911 as a full member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences . In 1913 he became a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In 1924 he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences . In 1932 he became an honorary member of the Leopoldina.
