Gottlieb Ringeltaube (born April 24, 1732 in Grembozin near Thorn , † May 25, 1824 in Stettin ) was a Lutheran theologian and general superintendent in Pomerania .

Live and act

Gottlieb Ringeltaube was born as the son of pastor Sylvius Ringeltaube and Anna Elisabeth Köhlchen in Grembozin (from 1900: Gramtschen, today Polish: Grębocin, community Lubicz), but spent his childhood in Thorn . He received lessons from his father until he went to the Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in Breslau in 1747 , where he lived with the Garve family. He made friends with his son Christian Garve , who later became a writer and moral philosopher.

In 1749 he began studying theology in Halle (Saale) , interrupted it to work as a private tutor in Breslau and then continued his studies at the University of Leipzig .

In 1760 he became pastor in Scheidelwitz (now Polish: Szydłowice) in the Silesian Duchy of Brieg . On June 18, 1769 he married Johanna Theodora Plackwitz, with whom he was married for 45 years.

From 1777 to 1785 Ringeltaube took over the pastoral position of the Lutheran congregation in Warsaw , where he contributed to the construction of the Trinity Church (today the main and bishop's church for the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland ) and its inauguration on December 30, 1781. During his time in Warsaw he also succeeded in forming a separate consistory for the parishes in Lesser Poland and Mazovia .

In 1785 he followed a call to the Silesian Oels , where he worked as Superintendent of the Principality of Oels, consistorial councilor and ducal court preacher to Prince Eugene of Württemberg.

In 1792 Gottlieb Ringeltaube was appointed General Superintendent of Pomerania in Stettin as the successor to Friedrich Christian Göring . He carried out this task until his old age. His successor was Friedrich Ludwig Engelken .

Honor

In 1819 he was awarded the University of Greifswald , the honorary doctorate .
