Gouville-sur-Mer is a town and a former French commune with 2,020 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Coutances and the canton of Saint-Malo-de-la-Lande .

With effect from January 1, 2016, Gouville-sur-Mer merged with the former municipality of Boisroger to form the Commune nouvelle Gouville sur Mer (spelling without hyphens) and has the status of a commune déléguée in the new municipality .

geography

The place is located on the Atlantic coast on the Cotentin peninsula , about 35 kilometers west of Saint-Lô and eleven kilometers northwest of Coutances . Gouville sur Mer is surrounded by the neighboring towns of Anneville-sur-Mer in the north, Geffosses in the northeast, Montsurvent in the east, Brainville in the southeast and Blainville-sur-Mer in the south.

Department roads D 72 and D 268 intersect in Gouville. In 1909, the station was opened on the narrow-gauge railway line from Coutances to Lessay . In 1937 their operation was stopped again.
