Grégoire Pierre Melki

Grégoire Pierre Melki (born December 12, 1939 in Hassaké , Syria ) is a Syrian clergyman and retired Syrian Catholic bishop and Patriarchal Exarch of Jerusalem .

Life

Grégoire Pierre Melki entered the Small Seminary in Charfet in 1952 . Melki studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the University of St. Esprit in Kaslik . He received on 8 August 1965, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Melki then taught Arabic language and liturgical science for four years . Grégoire Pierre Melki continued his studies at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome , where he obtained a licentiate in the subject of sciences on the oriental churches in 1973 . In 1975 he was after Canada dispatched to the pastoral care of the Syro-Catholic faithful in Montreal to take over. Melki was also raised to the rank of choir bishop .

Grégoire Pierre Melki was elected Patriarchal Exarch of Jerusalem at the Syrian Catholic Synod of Bishops, which met from September 11 to 15, 2001 in Charfet . On 25 February 2002 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Batnae dei Siri and approved his election to the Patriarchalexarchen of Jerusalem. On November 20, 2020, Patriarch Joseph Younan accepted his age-related resignation from office.
