Grünsee ( also: Grüensee, Grüenseeli ) is the name of two mountain lakes near Arosa in Graubünden , Switzerland .
location
The Green lakes are situated in a historical wooded landslide area between the Furggaalp and Furggahörnern, approximately 100 meters above the from the reservoir Arosa according Medergen leading Schanfigger Höhenweg .
Lower Grünsee
The Untere Grünsee is a mountain slide Nackensee at 1811 m . It is surrounded by a small moraine . Due to its somewhat hidden location in the middle of the coniferous forest , the water appears deep green. Various, partly muddy spruce trunks lie on the lake bed . The lake water is extremely clear, so you can watch the numerous trout well. You can often see tadpoles swimming here even in autumn , while the young frogs of the Upper , Lower and Schwarzsee are jumping around on the banks as early as the end of July.
Upper Grünsee
The Obere Grünsee at 1834 m is fed directly from a spring on the south bank . The ice-cold, greenish shimmering water springs from the slipped northwest flank of the Chlein Furggahorn, a summit of the Arosa Dolomites . The not very deep Upper Grünsee has no fishing grounds, but mallards occasionally breed there . There are also tree trunks on the lake bed. The outflow of the lake leads directly into the Lower Grünsee.
use
The two green lakes are accessible from the Isel by a red-white-red mountain hiking trail, which continues towards Maienfelder Furgga and the Schiesshorn . The Lower Grünsee in particular, with its interesting fireplace and picnic area on the north bank, is a popular attraction for families, hikers and mountain bikers . Like the entire Furggawald area, the lakes are owned by the city of Maienfeld , which has not released them for further use. In winter the green lakes are completely left to nature.
