The Schanfigger Höhenweg (No. 682) is part of the Grisons long-distance hiking trail network. The Höhenweg , which was opened in 2002, has been extended in 2011/2012 as a circular hiking trail from Chur via Tschiertschen to Arosa and from there along the northeastern Arosa Dolomites via Medergen , Sapün , Fondei and the Hochwang area back to Chur. It has a total length of around 70 km and covers both the left and right side of the Schanfigg valley .

Route description

The hiking time for the entire route is around 22.5 hours, in the opposite direction around a quarter of an hour less. There are overnight accommodations after each day's stage. The hiker also always has the option of descending into the valley or returning to Chur or Arosa by public transport. Both hiking directions are possible and equally recommendable. There is a hiking guide and associated map material on a scale of 1: 25,000.

The high trail is divided into an average altitude of 2000 m above sea level. M. in six major stages:

1st stage: Chur - Tschiertschen

  • Route: Meiersboden - Passugg - Ober Grida - Ricaldei - Usser Praden - Sagentobel - Inner Praden - Tschiertschen
  • Difficulty: T2

  • Highest point: Tschiertschen ( 1343  m )
  • Height difference net: 758 m
  • Time required according to BAW : 3.25 hours, opposite direction 2.5 hours.
  • Characteristics: Hike through alpine forests and over fields
  • Food and accommodation: Restaurants in Praden and Tschiertschen; Hotels, guesthouses and shops in Chur and Tschiertschen
  • Special: forest and alpine paths make the ascent easier. In the event of high water, be careful when crossing the Steinbachtobel
  • Sights: Füxliweg and saw from 1920 in Tschiertschen

2nd stage: Tschiertschen - Arosa

  • Route: Untersee - Isel reservoir - Furggaalp - Grünsee (variant) - Tieja - Medergen - Seebjiboden - Berghaus Heimeli (Sapün Jatz)
  • Difficulty: T2
  • Distance: 11 km
  • Highest point: Wangegg at Seebjiboden ( 2083  m )
  • Height difference net: 97 m (gross considerably more)
  • Time required according to BAW : 3.25 hours, opposite direction 3.42 hours
  • Characteristics: A varied walk with viewpoints

  • Special: easy mountain hike on good alpine and mountain trails. The variant via Tritt- Latschüelfurgga -Strelapass-Sapün requires surefootedness ( T3 )

4th stage: Sapün Jatz - Fondei Strassberg

  • Route: Strelapass - Felsenweg / Hauptertälli - Weissfluhjoch - Casannapass - Grünsee Duranna - Durannapass - Reckholdern - Strassberg
  • Difficulty: T3
  • Distance: 12 km
  • Highest point: Wasserscheidi at Weissfluhjoch ( 2629  m )
  • Height difference net: 88 m (gross significantly more)
  • Time required according to BAW : 4.5 hours, opposite direction 4.35 hours.
  • Characteristics: Demanding mountain tour over peaks and through green valley landscapes
  • Food and accommodation: Berggasthaus Heimeli (overnight accommodation); Strelapass mountain restaurant (summer); Weissfluhjoch mountain restaurant, Strassberg and Casanna mountain inns (overnight accommodation); Shops, restaurants, hotels and pensions in Langwies. The former Duranna Beizli is closed
  • Special: mountain hiking experience required. The variant via Tritt-Strelapass-Sapün requires surefootedness and good conditions. On snow fields or in fog in the area of ​​the Wasserscheidi between Totalp and Obersäßälli, the ascent and descent require caution. If necessary, you can descend from Weissfluhjoch with the Parsennbahn to Davos

  • Characteristics: Through alpine flora, ravines and mountain forests to Chur

  • Special: Long and steep descent from hut to Chur. Mountain hiking experience and good physical condition required. At high tide, be careful when crossing the ravine

The Swiss Irontrail , which was held for the first time in July 2012 , has led from Urdenfürggli - Hörnlihütte via Carmenna - Weisshorn to Arosa and from there via the Schanfigger Höhenweg to Medergen - Sapün - Strelapass to Davos .
