Green sauce monument (2007) in Frankfurt-Oberrad

The green sauce monument in Frankfurt am Main was inaugurated on May 21, 2007 in the Oberrad district . The unique is said to be the first and so far only German monument dedicated to a regional dish, the green sauce . The monument was designed by Olga Schulz from Ludwigsburg designed a student of the College of Design in Offenbach am Main . The monument was financed by the RheinMain SüdWest regional park. It is located within the Frankfurt green belt .

characterization

The monument consists of seven small buildings on concrete - foundations , the greenhouses modeled and are set up in a row. The transparent polycarbonate surfaces of each of these greenhouses are made in different shades of green. They pick up the hue of one of the seven basic herbs in green sauce. On the floor of each of the greenhouses that can be entered on the occasion of the inauguration there is a lettering with the names of these herbs: borage , chervil , cress , parsley , pimpinelle , sorrel and chives .

The greenhouses are a monument, so they are not used for growing the herbs in question. The artist regards them as museum showcases, although they usually contain an exhibit. Nevertheless, the monument makes direct reference to the surrounding soil, from which the herbs get their food. All around the herbs are grown and cared for, from which the Frankfurt Green Sauce is prepared.

The translucent surfaces not only allow a glimpse into the greenhouses, the sunshine and protection from the weather, but also reflect the landscape, the cultivated soil, the Frankfurt skyline and the sky. This is intended to establish the relationship between the traditional dish and its surroundings, but also the constant rhythm of plant growth, which is determined by the soil and the weather. For the viewer who sees Frankfurt's skyline through the green polycarbonate surfaces, it is immersed in green in this way; the court relates to the city.

In the dark, the seven greenhouses are illuminated, so that the graduated green tint like a sparkling emerald comes into its own and creates a completely different impression than in daylight. The green sauce monument is therefore part of the Frankfurt Luminale .

The monument was renovated in 2018.

The monument is on the edge of the Oberräder herb fields , behind Speckgasse . It is through the public transport Frankfurt , with the RMV - tram 16 reached or the bus line 46 and a short walking distance.
