Plan of the Green U (detail): Castle garden and Rosensteinpark

On the occasion of the International Horticultural Exhibition in 1993, the Green U was essentially closed by the Leibfriedschem Garten and Wartberg, which connected the Rosenstein Park with the Killesberg Park. This created a continuous connection from the Upper Palace Garden in the center of Stuttgart, which was redesigned for the Federal Horticultural Show in 1961 , past the main traffic junction via the Lower Palace Garden, which was redesigned on the occasion of the Federal Horticultural Show in 1977 , to the Höhenpark originally created for the 1939 Imperial Exhibition of German Horticulture .

course

The Green U begins at the Old and New Palace in downtown Stuttgart and leads north-east through the Upper Palace Garden with the Eckensee, around which the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg , the Württemberg state theaters with opera and theater as well as directly and indirectly several museums are grouped. including the three major Stuttgart art museums. Over bridges you come first in the middle and then in the lower castle garden, past the planetarium , several lakes and beer gardens as well as the mineral baths Berg and Leuze up to the Neckar .

The park of Villa Berg connects to the south here.

Am Neckar Castle Garden goes directly to Rosenstein Park , at which the Zoological and Botanical garden Wilhelma , the Wilhelma Theater and the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart belonging Museums Museum Schloss Rosenstein and Museum at the Lion's Gate are located.

A bridge at the Löwentor at the northwestern end of the Rosenstein Park leads to the Leibfried Garden with the ruins of the Villa Moser. This park was opened in 1993 as the last of the six parks.

You can reach the Wartberg with the Egelsee via several bridges . This park is criss-crossed by allotment gardens and various children's playgrounds. The park is located on the northeast flank of the Killesberg and leads steeply uphill in the upper part to the west.

Once at the top, you cross a bridge to the last park of the Green Us, the Killesberg high park . Here you will find a small branch of Wilhelma, several lakes and beer gardens, a park railway , the Killesberg tower and the outdoor swimming pool .

Beyond another bridge is the Feuerbacher Heide , a heather-like park towards the southwest with the grounds of the Weissenhof tennis club and the Bismarck tower, a popular vantage point over Stuttgart. With the move of the Stuttgart trade fair to the Fildern , a continuous connection between Höhenpark and Feuerbacher Heide has become possible. Since July 2012, in the area of the previous exhibition halls, the Green Fugue has been expanding the Killesberg Park to the south, followed by the Rote Wand Park in a former quarry that was previously used as a parking garage and connecting to the existing Feuerbacher Heide. Via the Feuerbacher Heide there is access to the Bismarck Tower on the Gähkopf, and it borders on the Kräherwald, which extends northwest of the city center, which will also provide a connection to the forest belt surrounding Stuttgart.
