Rochefort county
The county of Rochefort around the city of Rochefort-en-Yvelines was near Rambouillet south of Paris .
At the end of the 11th century it was owned by the lords of Montlhéry , who took office as castellans of Rochefort Castle, soon rose to become Counts of Rochefort and, as Seneschal of France, rose to the highest government offices and ultimately even made the king their son-in-law.
A little later these Counts of Rochefort died out. They bequeathed Rochefort to the Lords of Garlande , who in turn passed it on to the Counts of Montfort .
In the 16th century , the county passed to the Rohan family by inheritance . In 1728 Charles de Rohan (1693-1766), a younger son, was raised to the rank of Prince of Rochefort (Prince de Rochefort). This title lives on to this day.
