The Grand Wintersberg (German Great Wintersberg ) is at 581 m the highest mountain in the Northern Vosges in Alsace , France .
The Grand Wintersberg is located about four kilometers northwest of Niederbronn-les-Bains . The mountain range separates the valleys of the Falkensteinerbach and the Schwarzbach . On its summit, which is made of red sandstone , there is a 25 m high observation tower , which offers hikers an excellent panoramic view over the Northern Vosges, the Palatinate Forest and the Upper Rhine Plain to the Black Forest . With very good visibility, two Swiss Alpine peaks can be seen, Mönch and Altels .
In the 514 meter high saddle between the Big and Small Wintersberg (Col de la Liese) there is a hut "Chalet du Wintersberg" managed by the Vosges Club and the Liese , a Gallo-Roman , sphinx-like sandstone relief . Celtic relics can also be found on the goat mountain to the southeast .
