As of December 31, 2006, Grassel had 833 residents.

It is assumed that Grassel had around 150 inhabitants between the 15th and 18th centuries. Only after 1777 did it grow well beyond this size: 250 inhabitants in 1848, 398 in 1905, 680 in 1950. Currently, the place is growing steadily due to the favorable location on the outskirts of Braunschweig and was only expanded in 2002 by a new building area.

history

Early days of the place

It is currently believed that the place was founded around 800. Whether it is identical to a place "Grasaloh" mentioned in a document at the beginning of the 9th century has not yet been confirmed with certainty. In 1489 Grassel consisted of 3 full farms, 5 half farms and 9 Kötner farms. According to this, about 150 inhabitants were to be assumed at that time.
