Meinholz is a small settlement of five farmsteads directly on the border between the city of Braunschweig and the district of Gifhorn on the northern - Gifhorner - side. Meinholz belongs to the community of Meine and to the joint community of Papenteich .

geography

Today's "Weghaus Meinholz" of the Lüters family was once the customs and border station where tolls were previously collected from travelers on what was then Heerstraße, today's B 4, which runs in north-south direction . Meinholz is also located immediately west of the Braunschweig – Wieren railway line . This crosses the Mittelland Canal about 200 meters south of Meinholz on a bridge that was renovated in 2007 as part of track works.

history

The agriculture and cattle breeding previously operated on the farms have now largely been discontinued or leased to large farmers.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the settlement gained national fame through the animal dressage show (open-air stage), film animal school and dog school run by animal trainer Joe Bodemann . People from afar drove to the performances to see lions , reindeer , deer and other animals with their tricks. Joe Bodemann described the life of his animals in several books (including Jerry and Joe. From foundling dog to television favorite ; Löwenliebe ) and published a CD series Music for Animals . After Bodemann moved to the district of Celle , a dog school used the former animal show area.

traffic

Meinholz has recently been located at the end of the city motorway , which, as a federal motorway ring around the core of Braunschweig, merges into the old B 4 via the Braunschweig-Nord motorway junction north of the Mittelland Canal a few hundred meters south of Meinholz. In addition, a radar device in the settlement monitors the maximum speed of 80 km / h set after serious accidents in the curve there .
