history

Ohnhorst was first mentioned in a document in 1007. The document of King Heinrich II mentions in addition to Ohnhorst u. a. for the first time the places Meine , Eickhorst and Ribbesbüttel . It is believed that settlement began in both Ohnhorst and Gravenhorst in the 10th century. This is the period in which the Horst places of eastern Lower Saxony are classified.

Traditionally there is a close connection with Gravenhorst due to the close proximity. For a long time, both places shared a chapel and a schoolhouse. To this day, this is also reflected in the club system. Both places share the volunteer fire brigade , rifle club, sports club and development associations.

On March 1, 1974, Ohnhorst was incorporated into the community of Meine.

Since the 1000th anniversary, the townscape has been shaped by colorful pig emblems that have been hung on many houses and fences. The symbol refers to the pig breeding in the village . One of the local pig breeding operations has meanwhile been outsourced and is now operating in a newly built hall about 500 meters south of Ohnhorst.
