history

Abbesbüttel was probably founded in the 9th century or shortly thereafter and is one of the Büttel localities. Originally just one farm, it developed into a settlement of four farms by the 18th century. The growth of this settlement into a larger village began in the 19th century (1811: 9 residential buildings; in 1895 already 42 residential buildings). Due to the proximity of Wolfsburg and Braunschweig, the number of inhabitants has multiplied since 1945. Abbesbüttel is located on the Mittelland Canal , over which three bridges lead here.

On March 1, 1974 Abbesbüttel was incorporated into the community of Meine.

In 2004, in the latest mining area northeast of the village, the remains of a prehistoric rural settlement were discovered during excavation work, which the Gifhorn district archaeologist dated back to the 6th century BC. Was dated.
