history

Gravenhorst was first mentioned in a document in 1291. It is assumed, however, that the settlement is much older. Due to the local ending -horst, experts estimate that the foundation was to be incorporated into the 10th century. Due to the very short distance to Ohnhorst , there is traditionally a very close bond. For a long time, both places shared both a chapel and a schoolhouse (both already demolished). This bond continues today, especially in clubs. Both places have a common volunteer fire brigade , rifle club, sports club and support associations.

On March 1, 1974, Gravenhorst was incorporated into the community of Meine.
