The gray triggerfish ( Balistes capriscus , syn .: Balistes carolinensis ), also called the Atlantic or Mediterranean triggerfish , lives in the Mediterranean and Black Sea , in the eastern Atlantic from the British Isles to Angola , and in the western Atlantic from Nova Scotia across the Gulf from Mexico to the coast of northern Argentina at depths of 10 to 100 meters. Occasionally he is also the only triggerfish to go astray in the North Sea . It lives alone or in loose groups over rocky floors and sea grass meadows .
Gray triggerfish feed on bottom-dwelling invertebrates , especially mussels , snails and various crustaceans . They are considered tasty food fish.
features
Gray triggerfish are monochrome blue-gray, blue-green, olive or brownish. The unpaired fins have small, light blue spots. The fish become 60 centimeters long.

Reproduction
The breeding season of the Mediterranean population is summer. The female builds a shallow pit in the sandy bottom in which the spawn is placed and then guarded by the male. The eggs are round and transparent. After about 50 to 55 hours, the pelagic larvae hatch and drift away with the current.
