Gregory Pardlo (born November 24, 1968 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , USA ) is an American poet , author and university professor .

Life

Pardlo grew up in Willingboro Township , New Jersey . He studied English at Rutgers University in Camden (New Jersey) with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree . A New York Times scholarship in poetry enabled him to graduate from New York University as a Master of Fine Arts (MFA).

Pardlo currently teaches at Columbia University in New York . Prior to that, he taught at George Washington University in Washington, DC and in New York City at three colleges in the City University of New York , Medgar Evers College , John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Hunter College .

To date, Pardlo has published two anthologies of poetry, which have also been printed in various US magazines such as Plowshares , which is published three times a year, and distributed by National Public Radio .

Scholarships

In the following years he received other scholarships such as the New York Foundation for the Arts , the Artists Colony in New Hampshire , the MacDowell Colony , and the City University of New York . He also received a translation grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for a translation from Danish .
