The major flower Sonnenröschen ( Helianthemum grandiflorum ) is a crops art that for the genus of Sonnenröschen belongs.
Sometimes the large flowered sunflower is considered to be a group of mountainous subspecies of the common sunflower ( H. nummularium ).
description
The plant forms a 10-40 cm high, woody subshrub . The leaves are opposite, have clear stipules and are not leathery. The flowers are yellow and the (11-) 12-16 (-18) mm long, petals fall off very easily.
Several subspecies are distinguished within this species. The bald large-flowered sun rose ( H. grandiflorum subsp. Glabrum ), which occurs in the eastern Eastern Alps, has bald or glossy leaves that are at most ciliated at the edge. The actual large-flowered sunflower ( H. grandiflorum subsp. Grandiflorum ), which adjoins Salzburg and Upper Carinthia with a broad transition zone to the west, has leaves that are hairy on both sides. The two subspecies are sometimes considered to be separate species.
In contrast to the common sun rose ( H. nummularium ), a warmth-loving species of the lowlands, both subspecies lack the fine felt of short star hairs on the underside of the leaf. The cloudy green sun rose ( H. ovatum ), which also occurs in the Alps from the valleys to medium mountain ranges, differs in its smaller flowers and short star hairs between the nerves of the sepals.
Occurrence
The large-flowered sun rose is very common in the Alps . There are other occurrences in northern Spain , the Pyrenees , Auvergne , Jura , Apennines , Carpathians and the Balkans .
The preferred location is poor grassland on stony limestone soils at and above the tree line at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,500 m.
