The Grunbach is over 4 km long river in northern Baden-Wuerttemberg , which after about eastern pass through the territories of the northeastern Baden-Wuerttemberg in the Ostalbkreis and Schwäbisch Hall lying communities Rosenberg , Frankenhardt and Jagstzell the Reifenhof of Frankenhardt in from the right left upper course of the Jagst tributary Sulzbach flows.

geography

course

The Grunbach arises on the edge of this or a little further west within the Harbach forest in the large clearing island around the central Rosenberg hamlet of Hummelsweiler at an altitude of 487  m above sea level. NHN or something more. It flows very steadily east to east-north-east along its entire course. From the edge of the Harbach forest , it runs through a reed bed for the first 300 meters until it runs into the larger and lower of the two dammed colored lakes near the Farbhäusle residential area . Below it very soon reaches the outskirts of Hummelsweiler and crosses this largest place on its course partly underground. So far, walking on his way in the open corridor in a rather shallow hollow, he quickly digs a valley gully from the lower edge of the village, in which it now consisted of trees and bushes very close to nature and soon meandering between the villages on the high bank on the right Schüsselhof von Rosenberg and on the left Belzhof, which already belongs to Frankenhardt, flows through it and receives a few hundred meters long inlets from both.

Then he enters a forest area in which he is always accompanied on at least one side by a meadow at least 50 meters wide. The left forest already in Frankenhardter Flur is called Grunbachwald , the right one in Rosenberger Buchhölzle . The floodplain widens mainly to the right in the Wiesengewann, known on this page as Rauhe Burg , to over 300 meters wide, because the Schüsselbach now slowly approaches the Grunbach from its open lower valley from the south. A little next to each other and again in a narrow floodplain, both run through two notches of a pierced lake dam, immediately afterwards the Schüsselbach flows out. From here the municipal areas of Frankenhardt from the north and Jagstzell from the south meet in the floodplain or on the river. Less than 300 meters down, the Grunbach passes the Frankenhardt Grunbachsägmühle, which is over 50 meters away from the water on the left.

After her, the meanwhile flat hill becomes forest-free in front of the receiving water approaching from the left, half a kilometer further down, after the Grunbach has passed a large number of small ponds close to the left bank, including the right one. In a narrow strip of alluvial forest, the Grunbach passes the Reifenhof in the triangular mouth and then flows out at around 419  m above sea level. NHN from the right and finally west-southwest into the left upper reaches of the Sulzbach , which rises one and a half kilometers northwest of the Grunbach origin also in the Harbachwald as Harbach .

The Grunbach is 4.3 km long from the edge of the Harbach forest and flows out about 68 meters below sea level at this point, so its mean bottom slope from there is about 16 ‰.

At the right foot of the slope, the road from Hummelsweiler to Randenweiler runs in sections from the entrance of the Schüsselbach into the valley .

Catchment area

The Grunbach has a 3.9 km² catchment area in the Ellwanger Mountains , which is just over 4.5 km far from its western tip in the Harbach forest near a water reservoir at 518.7  m above sea level. NHN high Kuppe, its highest point, with a spindle-shaped contour extends eastwards to the mouth at the Reifenhof. Across it, it is a maximum of 1.6 km wide. In the north it borders along its entire length on the left upper course of the receiving Sulzbach , which only takes this name near the mouth and is previously called Harbach , Sobach and others. The southern watershed runs upwards from the mouth towards the right Sulzbach upper course, further to the west, on the other hand, the Orrot , which, like the Sulzbach, also joins the Jagst , competes beyond the Glasbach upper course . Only the point at the western tip partially drains via the upper Blinde Rot to the stove .

Slightly less than half of the catchment area is forested, it is a small part of the Harbachwald in the far west and above all the forest bar that begins after Schüsselhof and Belzhof as far as approximately Grunbachsägmühle, where the valley floodplain remains free. Outside the valley basin, the open corridor is mostly under the plow.

The largest part of the catchment area from the Harbachwald partly into the forest bar below Schüsselhof and Belzhof belongs to the municipality of Rosenberg in the Ostalbkreis . Below it is divided into a southern part, which belongs to the municipality of Stimpfach , and a northern part, which is in the Honhardt suburb of Frankenhardt in the neighboring district of Schwäbisch Hall ; the border between the two roughly follows the course of the stream.

geology

The catchment area of the Grunbach lies entirely in the Keuper . It arises in the silica sandstone ( Hassberge formation ) or higher. After initially running quite flat in the open corridor, after leaving Hummelsweiler, it quickly digs a valley trough through the Lower Bunten Marl ( Steigerwald Formation ) to the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ). A little before the Grunbachmühle it reaches the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ), into which it also flows.

nature

The Grundbach runs from the edge of the Harbach forest to near the Farbsee in a reed bed , which is designated as a natural monument. In Hummelsweiler he is a bit overturned. From the end of the village, it mostly runs in natural small meanders, partly accompanied by wet meadows. Finally, the bushes and trees that were already quite dense expand to a small strip of alluvial forest.
