The Grus II dwarf galaxy , also Grus II or Grus 2 for short , is a dwarf galaxy of the type dSph discovered in 2015 in the constellation Crane in the Local Group and one of the satellite galaxies of the Milky Way .

properties

Gru II dSph has a half-light radius of , which corresponds to a size of (93 ± 14) pc at a distance of about 53 kpc  . Both a clear red giant branch and some members of a blue horizontal branch can be seen in the color-brightness diagram . The distance to the Large Magellanic Cloud is 46 kpc and the center of the Milky Way is 49 kpc. At 33 kpc, it is a little closer to the Small Magellanic Cloud and at just 18 kpc, surprisingly close to dwarf galaxies in the toucan. Even if a current interaction with these systems can be ruled out at the moment, an earlier interaction with these systems cannot be ruled out.
