The Sextans dwarf galaxy is a spheroidal dwarf galaxy (dSph). It was discovered in 1990 by astrophysicists Mike Irwin, MT Bridgeland, PS Bunclark and RG McMahon as the eighth satellite galaxy of the Milky Way in the constellation of the Sextant .

The dwarf galaxy, also classified as dE3 , is moving away from the Milky Way at a speed of 224 km / s and shows a corresponding redshift . The galaxy has a distance of about 290,000 light years from our solar system .
