Antlia 2 is a gravitationally to the Milky Way bound dwarf galaxy in the constellation air pump . Its expansion in the sky extends over 1.27 °. At a distance of about 430,000 light years, their diameter is therefore almost 10,000 light years.

Antlia 2 is an ultra-diffuse galaxy and by far the most diffuse of these galaxies to date. It is 100 times fainter than the most scattered of the galaxies of this type observed so far.

Antlia 2 was discovered in 2018 using data mining methods from data in the Gaia star catalog. The astronomers found an unusual accumulation of RR Lyrae variables in the constellation Air Pump ( Antlia ) , which gave the crucial clue to the structure hidden behind it.
