The Bootes-I dwarf galaxy ( Bootes I or Boo I dSph for short ) is an extremely faint spheroid dwarf galaxy in the constellation of the Bear Guardian and thus belongs to the sub-type of ultra-faint-dwarf galaxies .
properties
The galaxy has a luminosity of only about 100,000 L ☉ and an absolute brightness of −5.8 m . It is only about 197 k ly away and seems to be deformed and torn apart by the tidal forces of our Milky Way . She shows two star trails that cross each other. Normally, tidal forces only form a tail in satellite galaxies.
Like most of the so-called ultra-faint-dwarf galaxies , the entire galaxy is fainter than the single star Rigel .
comment
Apparent brightness = absolute brightness + distance module = −5.8 + 18.9 = 13.1
