Guardbridge is a town in the northeast of the Scottish Council Area Fife . It is located at the mouth of the River Eden in the North Sea , about five kilometers northwest of St Andrews and 15 kilometers south-southeast of Dundee . In 2011 Guardbridge had 616 residents.

history

In the 15th century, the Bishop of St Andrews had a bridge built over the Eden with what is now the Old Guard Bridge , at the site of which Guardbridge developed. It is said that pilgrims gathered there in the Middle Ages before the last stretch to St Andrews. The A91 crosses the Eden at Guardbridge today . Previously, from discharges St Michaels coming A919 one, which is the main road from Guard Bridge.

From 1810 Guardbridge was the location of a nationally important whiskey distillery called Seggie . However, this was closed again in 1860. The building was converted to a paper mill , which opened in 1873. The company went bankrupt in 2006 and was acquired by the University of St. Andrews in 2008 . In 2012 Paul Miller founded the Eden Brewery St. Andrews, which specialized in craft beers. Two years later, the product range was expanded to include gin and whiskey and the company was renamed Eden Mill .
