Guddi ( Devangari : गुड्डी guḍḍī , Nastaliq : گڈی) is a Hindi film by Hrishikesh Mukherjee from 1971. It is about a school girl who fell in love with the movie star Dharmendra .

action

Guddi is a girl full of joie de vivre. She goes to school and lives with her father and brother and his wife Uma. Her greatest idol is none other than the movie star Dharmendra . Nobody knows about it until she goes to Bombay and visits her uncle there.

Guddi confesses to Navin, her sister-in-law's brother, that she is in love with Dharmendra, not knowing that Navin is actually in love with her. So he turns to his uncle S. Gupta, who is a psychologist by profession. Professor S. Gupta meets with Dharmendra and asks him for help. Since then, Guddi has been allowed to accompany Dharmendra on the film sets.

Guddi soon realizes that Dharmendra is not the person she knew from the big screen after all. Therefore, she decides for Navin and the two get married.

background

A number of film stars can be seen in Guddi :

With this film, Jaya Bachchan became one of the stars of Hindi film of the 1970s.

Awards

BFJA Awards : Special Award (Hindi film) for Guddi to Jaya Bhaduri (1972)

Nomination for the Filmfare Award 1972

criticism

Guddi seems to want to tear apart the star myth and not only want to show how films are made, but also the dark side of poverty and exploitation. What he does, however, is perform a small parade of movie stars.

Others

  • Dharmendra is said to have asked Jaya Bhaduri : " You are the heroine of the film? Tumhari umar kya hai? " ( You are the heroine? How old are you? )
  • Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to play the role of Navin, but Mukherjee wanted an unknown face and since Bachchan was very successful in Mukherjees Anand , he was no longer an option. He can only be seen in a small scene.
