Gudrun Calligaro

Gudrun Calligaro (born May 10, 1948 - August 4, 2017 ; nee Keefer ) was a German single-handed sailor. They sailed as the first German 1988-1990 singlehanded around the world.

Life

Gudrun Calligaro learned to sail as the daughter of the boat rental company Alex Keefer on Max-Eyth-See in Stuttgart . The relationship with shipping ran in the family, because her grandfather already had a Neckar ferry . At the age of ten she became a member of the Stuttgart sailing club.

She attended the commercial college , completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk and secretary and worked, among other things, in the executive board assistant for representing the interests of architects, later in the event planning of a chamber of industry and commerce and finally at the employment agency .

She regularly interrupted her gainful employment for sometimes longer sailing trips .

On October 1, 1987, she bought the club yacht of the Stuttgart sailing club, a Dufour Arpège built in 1970. The Slup is a short keeler 9.25 m long and 3 m wide with a sail area of 48 m². After overhaul and repair work, she started on July 11, 1988 in Brest (France) on a circumnavigation of the world, calling at seven ports: Santa Cruz de Tenerife , Cape Town , Sydney , Whangarei / New Zealand , Valdivia / Chile , Panama , Miami and finally , on July 9, 1990, back to Brest. She published the experiences and impressions of this two-year and 31,825 nautical-mile trip in the book A dream comes true .

After circumnavigating the world, they made further sailing trips across the seas:

  • 1992 with one hand girl through the Baltic Sea to St. Petersburg
  • 1995 with one hand girl from Großenbrode to Iceland
  • 1996–1997 an eight in the North and South Atlantic: Brest - Canaries - Cape Verde Islands - South Africa - St. Helena, Brazil, Azores, England
  • 1998 as skipper with the yacht (Sonate Ovni 42) Aldebaran from Hamburg in the Mediterranean, Atlantic and North and Baltic Seas for a 24-part television production by ZDF and Deutschlandradio

Calligaro had a brother and a sister.
