Gudrun Sräga

Gudrun Sräga (* 1955 in Singen am Hohentwiel ) is a German diplomat . She was Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan from 2011 to 2015 and Ambassador to Malta from 2015 to 2018 .

Life

Gudrun Sräga, daughter of Sudeten German refugees, studied history and political science as well as French from 1974 and graduated in 1980 with a master's degree from the University of Konstanz . Because of a research activity from 1982 at the European University Institute in Florence on the beginnings of the European Community, she also worked for the European Commission in Brussels , from 1984 research assistant at the European Parliament in Strasbourg .

In 1986 she entered the foreign service and, after completing her career examination, was initially employed in the cultural department of the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1986 to 1988 , before she then worked at the Consulate General in New York City . After working in the Political Department of the Foreign Office between 1992 and 1996, she was transferred to the embassy in Turkey . After her return, she was Head of Department for Turkey in the Foreign Office between 2000 and 2004 and then Head of the Political Department of the Embassy in India , before she was Head of Department for South Asia in the Foreign Office from 2007 to 2011 .

From 2011 to 2015 Sräga was ambassador to Kyrgyzstan , where she succeeded Holger Green , who in turn became the new ambassador to Yemen . In 2015 she became Ambassador to Malta .
