Gundula Bavendamm (* 1965 in Reinbek ) is a German historian and cultural manager . From 2010 to 2016 she headed the Allied Museum in Berlin. Since April 1, 2016, she has been the director of the Foundation Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation in Berlin.

Life

Bavendamm was born in 1965 as the daughter of the historian Dirk Bavendamm and his wife Mechthild. From 1985 to 1993 she studied modern and contemporary history, political science and German studies at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (MA) and in 2001 she started with Gerd Krumeich at the Philosophical Faculty IV with the dissertation espionage and betrayal. Conspiratorial war stories and French domestic politics, 1914-1917 to Dr. phil. PhD. She was a scholarship holder of the German Historical Institute Paris and the Center de Recherche des Historial de la Grande Guerre . In 2009 she acquired a certificate in cultural management from the Institute for Cultural Management at the Ludwigsburg University of Education .

From 1997 to 1999 she worked in the administration of the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology . From 2001 to 2004 she was a research assistant and curator at the German Historical Museum in Berlin. In 2005 she worked at the France Center of the Technical University of Berlin . In 2006/07 she was a curator at the Museum for Communication in Frankfurt and in 2007/08 she was deputy head of the public relations department there. This was followed by supervision of the exhibition Americans in Hesse - A Special Relationship through the Ages . From 2010 to 2016 she headed the Allied Museum in Berlin.

In February 2016 Bavendamm was elected as the new director of the Escape, Expulsion, Reconciliation Foundation (SFVV). Before taking office, she described her new area of ​​responsibility: She wanted to recruit scientists from Poland and the Czech Republic and perhaps “from Western countries” for the advisory board. Basically: "The expulsion of Germans is only one focus of the foundation's work , but it is the focus in the permanent exhibition ." She referred to the flight experiences in her family history: Her father fled the Soviet occupation zone to the West in 1946 .

She is u. a. Member of the scientific advisory board of the Our History Association. Nation's Memory, who oversees the Nation's Memory project . Bavendamm is also represented on the German Committee for World Document Heritage of UNESCO . She is a member of the Military History Working Group and the German Association of Museums .

Bavendamm has been married to the historian Sönke Neitzel since September 2006 and lives in Berlin-Charlottenburg .
