Gunnar Blix

Fritiof Gunnar Blix (born September 7, 1894 in Lund , † June 10, 1981 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish physiologist and professor at Uppsala University .

academic career

Blix went to school in Lund and graduated in 1912. In the same year he was enrolled at Lund University, where he studied medicine. In 1916 he passed the candidate exam and in 1922 the licentiate . 1925 closed Blix studies as doctor of medicine, and moved to the University of Uppsala , for a job as Laborator of physical chemistry to compete. From 1930 to 1961 Blix worked in Uppsala as a professor of medical and physiological chemistry.

Act

Blix's research focus was physiological chemistry and food research. Much of his work has been on the chemistry of fats , blood lipids, and diabetes . Together with Arne Tiselius and Harry Svensson , Blix discovered lipoproteins in 1941. Blix also worked on research into hyaluronan .

Blix was a member of the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala , honorary member of the Austrian Society for Microchemistry (1950) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . From 1956 to 1961 he was Vice Rector of Uppsala University.

Gunnar Blix descends from the old Jämtland family of Blix . He was the son of Magnus Blix (1849-1904) and the father of the Swedish politician Hans Blix (* 1928). He is buried in the Uppsala cemetery.
