Gunter Janda (born November 22, 1933 ; † November 16, 2015 in Wels ) was a Roman Catholic priest of the Diocese of Linz , who, due to his many years of activity in religious adult and continuing education, achieved a high profile, especially in Upper Austria .

Life

He grew up in Kremsmünster , graduated from the collegiate high school there and was ordained priest in 1958 . After working as prefect , spiritual and religion teacher at the Kollegium Petrinum in Linz , he taught for decades at the Pedagogical Academy of the Diocese and at the Religious Pedagogical Academy of the Diocese in Linz. In 1997 Janda retired and has since lived in Kematen am Innbach in the Grieskirchen district .

Based on his experience with young people as a religious teacher , but also as a student chaplain, Janda became involved early on in religious adult and further education , where he worked with numerous parishes, but also with the St. Franziskus Educational Center in Ried im Innkreis , the cross sisters and offices of the Diocese of Linz tries to give impulses for a Christian life in the present. He also became known through retreats , days of reflection and church services for adolescents and young adults, whose sermons were dedicated to specific questions of the time. At the end of the 1990s, Monsignor Janda had to retire from his job due to health problems. On April 3, 2000, Governor Josef Pühringer presented him with the Silver Medal of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria .

Gunter Janda died on November 16, 2015, a few days before his 82nd birthday, in Wels. The Requiem was celebrated on November 21, 2015 in Linz Cathedral , followed by burial in the priestly grave of the Diocese of Linz at the St. Barbara Cemetery in Linz.
