from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gunzo (* in the 6th century) was an Alemannic duke in the early 7th century, based in villa Iburinga , today's Überlingen on Lake Constance .

Live and act

His exact life and reign dates are not passed down. Gunzo was the father of Fridiburga , who lived with the Frankish King Sigibert III. got engaged.

Duke Gunzo invited the clergy and bishops of the area to a synod in Constance in 635 and presided over the election of the deacon John as Bishop of Constance as the successor to the deceased Bishop Gaudentius .

It remains questionable whether Gunzo is identical with Duke Gundoin , the founder of the Moutier-Grandval Monastery , who was attested at the same time , or with his predecessor, Duke Uncilin of the Alemanni . It is possible that Gunzo only ruled the eastern half of the Alamannia.
