Gustaf Olaf (Olof) Freiherr von Cederström (born April 12, 1845 in Stockholm ; † August 20, 1933 there ) was a Swedish history painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Cederström, offspring of the Swedish noble family von Cederström, initially went through a military career as a sub-lieutenant in a military police unit in Värmland , but after completing drawing lessons with Ferdinand Julius Fagerlin in Düsseldorf and Léon Bonnat in Paris in 1867/1868 , he submitted his departure.

His painting Karl XII's Journey Home in 1878 caused a sensation . Corpse shown at the World Exhibition in Paris. The buyer was the Russian Grand Duke Constantine , but after collecting extensive donations it later became the property of the Swedish National Museum , where initially only a copy was shown. Cederström participated intensively in the competition for the design of the staircase hall of the Stockholm National Museum and received first prize for his work Ansgarius preaches the Christian doctrine , while Carl Larsson received the final commission for the frescoes .

In addition to historical works, Cederström created portraits and studies of soldiers.

From 1878 he was a member of the Swedish Art Academy , from 1887 professor and from 1899 director of the academy's teaching facility. Cederström headed - like his cousin Thure from 1883 on international exhibitions in Munich  - the Swedish department at the art exhibitions of 1888 in Copenhagen , 1896 in Berlin and 1901 in Munich.
