Life
Gustav Höcker was born in the community of Leipziger Steinweg in front of Eilenburg as the son of a colorist in the Eilenburg textile industry. His childhood was under the impression of a time marked by social contradictions by the early industrialization. Höcker received higher education in Chemnitz and at the Kloschwitz boys' institute near Halle (Saale), which was then considered excellent .
Initially working as a businessman until he was 26, he now turned to writing. He made a name for himself as a narrator in German literary history. As he grew up in a time of great historical events, his stories are a reflection of the 19th century. Höcker devoted himself to the life of important musicians such as Beethoven , Haydn and Mozart , but also actors and politicians as well as detective novels. Charles Dickens served as role models , but also Karl Gutzkow and Ferdinand Stolle as direct sponsors. Höcker lived in Karlsruhe for a long time . Gustav Höcker spent his twilight years in Wroclaw in Silesia . When Höcker died there at the age of 79, he left an extraordinarily extensive work behind.
