Karl Heinrich Gustav Köhler (born March 1, 1818 in Lübben , Lausitz , † September 29, 1896 in Breslau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

origin

His parents were the master bookbinder in Lübben Gustav Köhler († October 16, 1877) and his wife Julie Kotte († July 27, 1828).

Life

He received his education at the high school in Lübben. After graduating on May 16, 1835, he joined the Prussian Army as a three-year-old volunteer with the 4th Artillery Brigade in Magdeburg . From October 1, 1836 to September 30, 1839 he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School . During this time he was aggregated on August 15, 1837 to Portepeefähnrich and on September 21, 1838 as Seconde-Lieutenant .

After his return, he was recruited on January 7, 1840 as an artillery officer with a patent on September 24, 1838. He was then posted to the General War School from October 1, 1842 to July 15, 1845 . Finally he came from July 15, 1845 to October 1, 1845 in the Emperor Alexander Grendier Regiment. Then he was transferred from 1847 to 1852 as a teacher at the division school of the 8th Division. During this time, from March 1 to April 30, 1850, he was posted as an adjutant to General Radowitz.

On April 7, 1870, he was appointed commander of the Lower Silesian field artillery regiment No. 5 in Glogau offset.

During the Franco-Prussian War he was from July 18, 1870 to June 1, 1871 commander of the artillery corps of the 5th Army Corps. During the campaign he fought at Weißenburg , Wörth , Sedan and at Mont Valerien as well as at the siege of Paris and the battles at Stonne, Valenton, Bonneuil, Petit Bicetre and Malmaison. For this he received the Iron Cross 2nd Class on August 25, 1870 and the Iron Cross 1st Class on January 1, 1871 . He was promoted to colonel on January 18, 1871, and was in command of Mont Valerien from January 29 to March 8, 1871.

After the war he returned on October 26, 1872 as a commander in the field artillery regiment No. 5.
