Gustav Kassbaum (born March 27, 1878 in Rehna , Mecklenburg-Schwerin ; † July 19, 1929 in Berlin ; alternative spelling: Gustav Kaßbaum ) was a German architect and Prussian construction clerk .

Life

Gustav Kassbaum studied architecture for a semester at the Technical University of Munich before moving to the Technical University (Berlin-) Charlottenburg . He finished his legal clerkship in 1908 with the second state examination, which he passed with distinction , combined with winning the state award and the association souvenir (Schinkel plaque) in the Schinkel competition in 1908. The state award enabled him to go on a study trip to Italy and the Netherlands . He was appointed government builder ( assessor in the public building administration) and initially worked on the construction of the Halberstadt district court . Subsequently, from 1911 to 1914, he was entrusted with the new building management of the Saarbrücken district and regional court . From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier . He then took over the management of the state building construction office in Wittstock / Dosse . In the mid-1920s he worked briefly in the building management of the Potsdam district government before he was appointed to the Prussian Ministry of Finance in 1925 (under Finance Minister Hermann Höpker-Aschoff ). In 1926 he was appointed senior government and building officer there , and he took over the department for higher education institutions in Prussia . In addition, in 1927/1928 he was responsible for the artistic direction for the final interior work in the State Opera Unter den Linden . Finally, the new buildings for the Pedagogical Academies in Prussia fell into his field of work . At the same time, these new building tasks marked a change in his professional work from a more traditional conception of architecture to a design in the sense of New Building , which has also been found in the state building industry in Prussia since the architect Martin Kießling was appointed head of the structural engineering department of the Prussian Ministry of Finance (1928) asserted.

Kassbaum was married and had a son and a daughter.
