Guy Braunstein (born August 27, 1971 in Tel Aviv , Israel ) is an Israeli violinist. From 2000 to 2013 he was first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic .

Life

At the age of seven he began to learn the violin . On his way to becoming a professional musician, he studied with Chaim Taub and later in New York with Glenn Dicterow and Pinchas Zuckerman .

Braunstein began his international career at a young age, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician and has since performed with many important orchestras, such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra , the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra Copenhagen and the Radio Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra , the Filarmonica della Scala and the Berlin Philharmonic , to name just a few.

His success quickly led him to the most important stages in the world, and he has worked with musicians such as Isaac Stern , András Schiff , Zubin Mehta , Maurizio Pollini , Vladimir Fedosejew , Yefim Bronfman , Daniel Barenboim , Lioba Braun, Sir Simon Rattle , Mitsuko Uchida , Andrey Boreyko , Lang Lang , Jonathan Nott , Emanuel Ax , Gary Bertini , Pierre-Laurent Aimard , Semjon Bytschkow and Angelika Kirchschlager .

Between 2003 and 2007 Braunstein held a professorship at the Universität der Künste Berlin and from 2006 to 2016 he was artistic director of the Rolandseck Festival (together with Ohad Ben-Ari), to which he regularly attended international stars such as Emmanuel Pahud , Hélène Grimaud , Amihai Grosz and François Leleux invited.

In 2000 Braunstein was appointed first concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker , with whom he had already performed in 1992 as one of the soloists in Beethoven's Triple Concerto under the direction of Zubin Mehta. In the summer of 2013, Braunstein left his work with the Berliner Philharmoniker to concentrate on his solo career.

Recent highlights have been solo appearances with the Israel Symphony Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg , the German State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate , the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sofia Philharmonic. In addition, Braunstein is intensively involved in chamber music and gives recitals in London, Paris, Berlin, Luxembourg, Jerusalem, Frankfurt, Croatia and Poland.

In recent years Braunstein has been involved in Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra .

In the 2011/12 season, Guy Braunstein was the “ Artist in Residence ” of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra . Braunstein plays a violin made by Francesco Ruggieri in 1679 .
