Gwächtenhorn

The Gwächtenhorn is 3420  m above sea level. M. high summit of the Urner Alps , not far from the Susten Pass . The border between the Swiss cantons of Bern and Uri runs over the summit in a west-east direction .

Since its highest point is glaciated, it is normal for the altitude to vary from one card issue to the next. To the west of the main summit is the Tierberglimi (also called Chelenlücke), opposite the gap is the Hinter Tierberg ( 3447  m ). The flat eastern ridge of the Gwächtenhorn falls gently to 3,159 meters, then gently climbs up to the Rot Stock ( 3,183.3  m ). The ridge continues in an easterly direction to a secondary peak of the Sustenhorn (at 3315  m ), the main peak of the Sustenhorn at 3504 meters is to the north of it.

The southern flank drops off steeply from the southern secondary peak as a rock face to the Chelen glacier in Göschenertal . The northern flank is dominated by the stone glacier . The firn flows after seeing glacial ice has become, down to the northeast, since due north an ice-free rocky ridge located, connects at the foot of the peak current to that of the Chelenlücke. Two more rock ridges are located lower on the north flank and form the Tierberg and the Bockberg. The Tierberglihütte ( 2797  m ) is located on the Tierberg and is looked after by the Baselland section of the Swiss Alpine Club .

The summit can be climbed via the eastern flank in a comparatively easy glacier tour.
